The former fishing village of Almyrida, 21km east of Chania, is considerably less developed than its neighbor, Kalyves, although it’s pretty built up, with ever more new hotels going in. It has a long, exposed beach and is popular for windsurfing. History buffs can find the remains of an early Christian basilica at the western end of the village.
