The 8km-long hike through the Imbros Gorge is not only an excellent alternative to the more famous Samaria Gorge but actually a fabulous – and crowd-free – destination in its own right. Not especially strenuous (especially if you start in the north at Imbros), it threads past warped rock formations and through needle-like canyons, taking you through pine forest and past the occasional wild goat or donkey. Budget about three hours.
