The port of Chania on the island of Crete is named Souda and is one of the most important ports of the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, and a major commercial centre in the wider area. During the summer months there are daily ferry connections between Souda port and the port of Piraeus in Athens. The traditional, Venetian harbour of Chania is located on the northern side of Chania. The Venetian lighthouse, the castle and the vaulted pane are characteristical sights of the port.
